10 Bookish and Not-So-Bookish Thoughts

Bookish and Not-So-Bookish Thoughts is a weekly blogging event hosted by Bookishly Boisterous. It allows book bloggers (and non-book bloggers) to write about pretty much anything, bookish or otherwise (i.e. share exciting plans for the weekend, rants on things they’ve encountered during the week, etc.).

  1. I do apologise in advance to everyone who regularly drops in over here at my blog and who follows me on Twitter with regards to what will happen come June – July 2014: you will hear almost nothing from me but about World Cup (especially on Twitter–unless you are a big football fan too, in that case, *flails*). Well, I’ll still talk about books and likely about my general experiences and impressions about clinical *fingers crossed* but otherwise it’s all going to be about the beautiful game =P Draws for the 8 groups were done last Friday:

Germany’s not in an easy group per se but it should be an interesting round (lmao that they’re facing Portugal–they’re always facing Portugal!). I was honestly D= when I saw England’s grouping though. I hope they will play consistently well next year, I want them to make it far (and of course Italy is in the same grouping with them so I may be a little confused come their match xP). Still a wee bit sore that Sweden didn’t make the cut, I enjoy watching them play. And the Spain vs. Netherlands should be a good one too 😉

  2. Related to #1, time to break out the football kits and the scarves again 😀 Re: the picture – in case I wasn’t clear who I support 😉 It’s going to be interesting in the house as my dad, my brother and I support different teams =P
  3. Okay, this question has had me stumped this week: it has been feeling (wind chill included here) like -10 to -17 degrees Celcius this week (according to Google that’s between 14 and 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit for a comparison)–how is it that many of the girls I see on campus and in the subway are wearing only tights? O_o Are they not freezing? Do they have some miraculous extra layer of subcutaneous tissue that works like extra insulation? I’m wearing a few layers and I’m still cold.

Article: Femnista [Oct 2013]

Posted 31 October, 2013 by Lianne in Writing / 2 Comments

Happy Hallowe’en! I’m a little late in posting this (had a midterm today–it seems this midterm season just is not ending xP) but Femnista has released a speculative issue in celebration of the day 😉

For this issue, I wrote on the awesome new show Orphan Black that aired last spring. As some of you know, I am a big fan of the show, having posted my thoughts of the episodes as they aired and speculations about what’s to come. It was an interesting challenge to write this article just because it’s really a show to watch and experience for yourself–the revelations and the questions that pop up as we go along are just mindblowing. I didn’t want to spoil you (if you’ve never heard of it and are planning on watching it at some point)! 😉

Be sure to stick around my blog in the coming days as I will talk about the show a bit more as part of Sci-Fi Month, which starts tomorrow (November 1st)!

Anyway, this is another fantastic issue of Femnista, I hope you enjoy this issue!

Okay, the finale post was getting too long so I had to break the speculation off to its own separate post (and like my brother told me as I was typing this, “You can go on forever speculating.” True). So, super MAJOR spoilers if you haven’t watched the series 1 finale of Orphan Black!

Television: Orphan Black (Series 1 Finale)

I can’t believe it’s the series 1 finale already! It seemed like yesterday I was just standing on the platform at Bloor, looking at the poster promoting Orphan Black and wondering what the show is about as I had never heard of it (and the poster didn’t really give anything away). Almost 10 weeks later and I’m like “OMG, best television show EVAH!” =D

But in all seriousness, this series has been such a ride and it’s been wonderful not only to learn more about these characters as the show went on but also to see the fandom expand. I’m glad that it’s been garnering a lot of attention and that Tatiana Maslany has been recognised for her stellar performance because the show is just fantastic, period.

Anywho, on to my thoughts on the finale! Contains major spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen the episode (or any of the episodes this past series)–because, you know,

(Not my gif, as always, but accurate gif is accurate (plus, I like penguins))

Also, be prepared for a very long post as I’ve included my speculation for series 2 (It couldn’t be helped!)

Posting this a bit later than usual (sort of) so some of my initial reactions probably didn’t make it into this entry. In the meantime, omg, second last episode of the series! Contains major spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen episode 9 (or any of the episodes this past series)–because, you know,

(Not my gif, as always (bunnies are cute))
