I’m doing a bit of multitasking at the moment–editing, writing and cleaning out my Bookmarks section (which is very messy and disorganised)–so I’ve decided to post a collection of links to news articles and other related links of interest that caught my attention. It’s an eclectic mix of news, culture, history and pop culture all rolled in one =P
- Queen Victoria’s Complete Diaries Released Online — I thought this was cool. I’ve read some of her letters of correspondence before (as part of a research paper…on English/Russian relations during the 19th century, I think, haha) but it’s amazing how much we have of her writings. I think it’s fantastic that you can access it online. Here’s the website itself if you’re interested.
- Can we save the world’s dying languages? — I thought this was interesting given my passing interest in language and cultures.
- 15 Underrated Actors from the British Isles — A blog entry that cropped up on ONTD, it’s one of those few lists that I wholeheartedly agree with. There’s maybe one or two actors I haven’t seen in anything but otherwise they’re all brilliant.
- The Shocking Original Logos of 10 Major Companies — I thought this was really cool, the title speaks for itself.
- The squeeze is on for the world’s narrowest street — Another interesting article. Looking at that photo, is it even a street?
- New Theory: A “Hit and Run” Accident Created Our Moon — An interesting theory (complete with images!)
- Everything Peter Jackson added to The Hobbit — with PROOF! — In case you’re wondering what having 3 Hobbit movies would entail ^^
- 10 Futuristic Technologies That Will Never Exist — As you may notice, I’ve been reading a lot more from io9.com these days, some of their articles are really interesting. As the name suggests, some techs that they think will never come around.
- London 2012: 12 more British quirks in 212 words for 2012 visitors — I enjoyed reading this article. I genuinely cackled at the “Saying sorry” entry because Canadians do it too (I guess this is where we got it from?)
- Shelf-Pod: An Entire Japanese Home Lined with a Maze of Bookshelves — My future house, lol. Seriously, I’m always talking about how I need more bookshelf space for all of my books so why not design my house like one?
- Art Meets Literature in the Sterling Signature Shakespeare Series — I’ve been following her site (and her other site The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower–you should check it out, it’s great!) for some time now. She featured the Sterling publications of some of the Shakespeare books some time ago and they’re absolutely beautiful, I can’t wait until the Hamlet one comes out in November.
- Wolf Hall is to be a BBC drama — I need to re-read the book, it didn’t catch my attention so much the first time around. A second read my change that.
And that’s my collection of odds and ends links for now! I might do this every now and then when time permits (and should my bookmarks start ballooning again). Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend =)
