10 Bookish and Not-So-Bookish Thoughts

Bookish and Not-So-Bookish Thoughts is a weekly blogging event hosted by Bookishly Boisterous. It allows book bloggers (and non-book bloggers) to write about pretty much anything, bookish or otherwise (i.e. share exciting plans for the weekend, rants on things they’ve encountered during the week, etc.).

  1. Tuesday was fun; I had to go to the other campus for my clinical clearance and yeah, it’s pretty far. Like, the temperature dropped kind of far. And it’s sort of in the middle of nowhere. Photo on the right? That’s part of the campus O_O Thank goodness my clearance came through without a problem; I just hope I get the clinical placement I want now *fingers crossed* *hopes and prays*
  2. I had an assignment due yesterday and omg it was like pulling teeth (hmm, not an apt analogy, getting my wisdom teeth pulled wasn’t quite a huge ordeal). The instructions we got were actually pretty scant…Ehh, it’s over now *shrugs*
  3. The snow doesn’t seem to want to end, does it? We got caught with the massive snow storm that hit the East Coast yesterday; it was so much snow that my faculty actually cancelled classes that the evening (thank goodness I caught the message before venturing out). Hope all of you in the East Coast are doing well!
  4. I feel so bad, I have a stack of letters from penpals that I’ve been meaning to get back to but haven’t yet–and now my tests are starting to roll in *thud* This weekend maybe?
  5. Meanwhile, last Friday was pretty amazing, I found out I won three books (!!!) One of them already arrived on Tuesday, Shirley Jackson’s The Bird’s Nest. I think I have a few titles of hers on my want-to-read list and I’m looking forward to reading this title 🙂 (In case you’re wondering, the other two books I won were Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I Loved Before and an ARC of Matthew Quick’s The Good Luck of Right Now)
  6. My latest favourite book: C.S. Richardson’s The Emperor of Paris (review). This year is shaping up to be a good year in reading <3
  7. Remember how last week I mentioned that my Amazon package didn’t arrive and I ended up having to call around trying to figure out what happened because it said it was delivered? Apparently it was delivered to the wrong house a few doors down O_O Didn’t get it until Sunday. Long hassle short, my family has the things they ordered and I have my paperbacks of Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life and Olga Grushin’s The Secret Life of Sukhanov 🙂
  8. If I wasn’t excited enough for Captain America: the Winter Soldier, I was positively flailing when I saw this trailer that they aired last Sunday:
  9. On a football-related note, LOL forever:
  10. Finally, just a bit of pluggage for anyone who is interested: as part of a book tour I’m currently participating in, I am currently hosting a book giveaway contest for a copy of Will Bashor’s Marie Antoinette’s Head: The Royal Hairdresser, The Queen, And The Revolution (US/Canada only–so sorry international readers!). Also for anyone who is interested, drop by tomorrow as I have a guest post from the author talking about Marie Antoinette and some of the elaborate hairstyles she donned during her life in court 😉

And that’s about it from me this week 🙂 Happy weekend! Be sure to link up over at Bookishly Boisterous if you’re participating.

  1. I do apologise in advance to everyone who regularly drops in over here at my blog and who follows me on Twitter with regards to what will happen come June – July 2014: you will hear almost nothing from me but about World Cup (especially on Twitter–unless you are a big football fan too, in that case, *flails*). Well, I’ll still talk about books and likely about my general experiences and impressions about clinical *fingers crossed* but otherwise it’s all going to be about the beautiful game =P Draws for the 8 groups were done last Friday:

Germany’s not in an easy group per se but it should be an interesting round (lmao that they’re facing Portugal–they’re always facing Portugal!). I was honestly D= when I saw England’s grouping though. I hope they will play consistently well next year, I want them to make it far (and of course Italy is in the same grouping with them so I may be a little confused come their match xP). Still a wee bit sore that Sweden didn’t make the cut, I enjoy watching them play. And the Spain vs. Netherlands should be a good one too 😉

  2. Related to #1, time to break out the football kits and the scarves again 😀 Re: the picture – in case I wasn’t clear who I support 😉 It’s going to be interesting in the house as my dad, my brother and I support different teams =P
  3. Okay, this question has had me stumped this week: it has been feeling (wind chill included here) like -10 to -17 degrees Celcius this week (according to Google that’s between 14 and 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit for a comparison)–how is it that many of the girls I see on campus and in the subway are wearing only tights? O_o Are they not freezing? Do they have some miraculous extra layer of subcutaneous tissue that works like extra insulation? I’m wearing a few layers and I’m still cold.
