Bookish and Not-So-Bookish Thoughts is a weekly blogging event hosted by Bookishly Boisterous. 1. Quite a bit of happenings since my last post. First up: I had applied sometime in August for a temporary part-time position at my old unit (thinking ahead here: my present position is up at the end of the year and I like having scheduled shifts, especially with me being back in school and all; I’d be heading back there anyway as a casual again so I figured what the hell) and found out sometime in September that I got the position 🙂 So I’m heading back to my old unit in a few weeks xD I’m sad to leave the unit I’m presently at, the staff’s solid and despite of the increasing busy-ness on the floor I still enjoy working there.
2. In other news, school has been…nutty. I could go on and on ranting about the way that the programme is designed but ugh, anyway. Suffice to say it’s taking out a lot more time than I expected because there’s like a bajillion tiny assignments we’re required to complete along the way (FML)
3. Tomorrow’s my birthday! Been scrambling all this week to finish my assignments as soon as possible so I can relax tomorrow 😛 Not that I have any big plans tomorrow (German beer and my blu-ray of Wonder Woman awaits me) but it’d be nice to have the day without thinking about schoolwork or work, lol. As for turning another year older, well…lol.
4. Speaking of my birthday tomorrow, keep a lookout on my blog, I’ve got something fun in store 😉



5. Meanwhile, until Friday the 6th I am currently hosting a giveaway on GoodReads for a signed copy of my debut poetry collection Shall I Be a Poet Instead? (see post) I’ve been meaning to do it but I had just been a bit busy on my end to take care of setting up a giveaway…Anyway, it’s only open to residents of Canada and the US for now but keep an eyeout here, I’m planning on holding a giveaway over here as well in a month or so 🙂
6. Ugh, because I’ve been so busy, I haven’t been able to clamp down and work on putting together my next poetry collection ;_; I’m off next week because of Reading Week but I very much doubt I’d get around to doing it…but we’ll see.
7. Books I am currently reading: Frank Herbert’s God Emperor of Dune at long last. I finished re-reading Dune Messiah and Children of Dune and finally, after what? 15 years since I started reading this series I’m finally making my way to reading the last three books in said series xD How exciting…Meanwhile, I also started reading Charles Baudelaire’s The Flowers of Evil which arrived in the mail yesterday with a few other books.
8. Has anyone been watching Star Trek: Discovery? Part of me is happy that Star Trek is on again (grew up watching DS9 and all) and the cast looks great, but part of me is still miffed that they’ve stuck to story-telling around the 22nd century/pre-Kirk/around Kirk’s time. What’s wrong with writing a series set in the post-Voyager universe? The situation is ripe for story-telling…
9. Speaking of adaptations, I’m usually pretty wary whenever it comes to adaptations of my favourite books but exception to the fact: I’m so freakin’ excited for A Discovery of Witches (book review; Instagram account). I never thought of Matthew Goode in the role of Matthew Clairmont and ever since he was cast I’ve been like “Yes! He’s the character” and seeing him dressed up as the character + all of the BTS images of them filming has me all 😀
10. I’ve done about 5 out of the 10 listed here. What do you think of this list?

1. Where has August gone? Now that I think about it, where has the summer gone? This summer has been rather odd, to be honest, in some ways it didn’t feel like summer (the weather + not many coworkers on my present unit went on holiday so shifts, whilst a bit more than before, was still sparse compared to last summer). Though I do like cool weather…
2. August was fairly busy for me: work picked up a bit, and I also met up with my friends. On the other side of the spectrum, I sort of fell behind with my projects so alas, my second writing project is going to be pushed back a few months. I’m hoping to release it before the end of the year, fingers crossed.
3. But in related exciting news, I found out last month that my poetry collection is now available via Amazon/The Book Depository/Barnes & Noble/etc 😀 Feels super legit now, lol.
4. Speaking of work, omg is it ever busy on my unit right now x_x Just came off working how many days straight this past weekend (whilst everyone was off holidaying 😛 ) so yay for the break, but alas school starts today for me too 😛 What am I getting myself into? O_o
5. I caved last month and bought a Foxy Fix, thinking I’ll be busy to have remembered I even ordered it and it’ll just magically pop up in my mailbox. No, that’s not the case, I keep checking my email to see if it’s shipped and it hasn’t and argh, I needs it noooooooow 🙁
6. To pass the time and to keep the motivation going, I’ve started brainstorming where to go on holiday next year, lol. Definitely Europe-bound again but whereabouts depend on my family’s plans for next year as well…



7. Books I am currently reading: John Donne’s Collected Poetry, George R.R. Martin’s The Ice Dragon for sure. I think I’ll be settling in with Mur Lafferty’s Six Wakes (starting to get my reading done for this year’s Sci-Fi Month). As I type this post up, I’m still debating what to read during my break…do I go with a classic? A 20th century iterary classic? Bring my eReader and pick up a title from there? Choices, choices…
8. Went on a bit of a book buying spree last month. I mean, yay that I’m not buying as frequently as before (I guess because I’ve been so busy and my reading pace has gone down) but when I do buy, it’s by the stacks :3 Oops.
9. Time for that seasonal cleaning around again (getting rid of clothes I no longer wear, books on my shelf I will never read again, shred old receipts, etc.). Good times.
10. I’m trying to figure out where to eat for my birthday next month (Edit: Oops, forgot to clarify that when I typed out this entry initially). There’s loads of restaurants I want to try, but because my birthday falls on an awkward day of the week (Thursday) and I’m working both the weekend before and the weekend after, it doesn’t give me much leeway as to when to celebrate (in that my whole family is available to partake). We’ll see.

1. So last month I finally posted photos from my trip. Yay! 😀 Of course, that’s not the end of pouring over my travel photos as I am planning on using some of them for an upcoming project (ooh, spoilers) 😉
2. Speaking of projects, I finally released my debut poetry collection, Shall I Be a Poet Instead? It’s pretty surreal and a relief to finally launch that baby into the world…It’ll be a little while longer before it shows up at Amazon.com and the like but for now it’s available for purchase at Lulu.com 🙂
3. Whilst it was a little surreal to finally be talking about and sharing my work in public, it really hit me a few days after when my GoodReads profile changed. Feels pretty legit now, haha :3
4. I think I found my summer jam:
   

   Though this song might also be my summer jam; I didn’t quite get why people LOVED Lorde when her first album came out, I liked maybe one or two songs but listening to her second album and going back to the first one…yeah, I dig it, lol.
   



5. Otherwise, my July was okay. Started dealing with stuff for September and the programme that I will be entering then (a bit of a pain in the butt, but anyway). Work has been okay, busy and a bit stressful (okay, understatement of the year, that last bit, but anyhow). The weather thankfully hasn’t been like a consistent heatwave like last year (though last week was disgusting, omg). Unfortunately we received some sad news in the family so July all-in-all has been a rollercoaster of emotions.
6. Books I am currently reading: I’ve started reading Dan Simmons’ Hyperion whenever I’m on break at work; it’s pretty interesting, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get around to reading it. I also started reading Simon van Booy’s The Secret Lives of People in Love 🙂
7. Like almost every year now I have not read any of the books on the Man Booker Prize 2017 longlist. Yikes.
8. Yaaaaaasssss I finally own all of Simon van Booy’s fiction. Exciting stuff 😀
9. In my last bookish & not-so-bookish post I talked about that passport TN that I had and didn’t know what to use it for. Well, I ended up giving it to my mum, who wanted one anyway, because I bought another regular TN, this time in camel. The leather one remains my everyday but the camel one houses my long-term planning stuff…and my washi samples at present 😛
10. I’m thinking of making a post here one of these days about my enthusiasm for fountain pens, paper, and inks. Anyone else just as enthuasistic about these things as I am? 😀

1. Rejoice! I finally organised my photos from my trip to Iceland and Denmark and will be posting them up here later this month 😀 Only took me how many months to get around to that (oops) :3

2. I caved and subscribed to the June box for the Panduh Paper box again. There’s just so much pretty in it! Photos from that box to be posted later this month too 😉
3. Why do I have this sinking feeling that I lost a few posts when I migrated over to this new server? I was typing my review for John Wick: Chapter 2 (to go live in August) and I swear I had written up a review for the first movie but I can’t find it anywhere either on WordPress or on PHPMyAdmin O_o Ugh.
4. The month of June overall was all right. I’m starting to note a trend at work where my start of the week is usually mid to late in the wee until Sunday, lol. Which I don’t mind; it’s just funny that whilst people are like “Fri-YAY!” it’s the start of the work week for me 😛 Speaking of which, whilst everyone was out enjoying their Canada Day long weekend, I was at work -_-;
5. As a result of working last weekend I missed seeing the giant rubber duck 🙁
6. I know they need to keep it free somehow but the ads peppered throughout my feed on Instagram is a bit annoying; I’m constantly like “Wait, I didn’t add you” O_o Though the whole photos not in chronological order will irritate me to no end…



7. I mentioned it before but I’m quite the notebook hoarder. I’m making an effort to use them–on the plus side I’m all set for the school year in September–but then I have my passport Midori traveller’s notebook that I haven’t used at all. I guess it’s going to by my notes of all sorts notebook but I still haven’t actually started using it yet. On the plus side I finally clipped my Dalek charm on it 😀
8. I’ve been a little scattered in terms of my reading as of late but here’s what I’m reading at the moment: finally started reading Joseph Boyden’s The Orenda, Robert Rotenberg’s Stray Bullets (was reading all Canadian during Canada Day weekend with the first two books :P), and Miguel Hernandez’s poems (which I love so very much) 🙂
9. I didn’t jinx myself per se but I was actually doing quite well for a while there when it came to book purchasing (probably because all my money went to stationery and buying a number of different fountain pens) but then voila! Bought like 10 books recently xD I blame the Book Depository sending that coupon earlier in June…it started from there 😛 But anyway I’m looking forward to the books arriving…a bit of poetry and finishing up my Simon van Booy collection 🙂
10. My poetry project stalled for a bit in the latter weeks of June as I was waiting to hear back regarding applying for an ISBN (fun fact: here in Canada you can apply for one for free). It came through last week so I uploaded the draft and now I’m just waiting for the proof copy to arrive in the mail–eep! =O In the meantime, I’ve slowly starting planning for my next poetry project collection, this time combining a bit of photography in the collection as it’ll feature some stuff I wrote whilst I was on holiday 🙂

1. Omg my laptop is loading so friggin’ slow these days, it’s very hard to multitask =S And to think this laptop is…what? Two years old? Very concerning O_o
2. Can’t say I had much going on in the last few weeks. Work has its ebbs and flows in terms of picking up shifts, but it has been busy every time I’ve come in since I came back from vacation. I need another vacation, lol xD *le sigh*
3. Speaking of which, yeah, haven’t had a chance to sit down and organise my photos from my holiday into posts just yet. Sorry! As you may have also noticed, I haven’t been on much these days…taking forever getting back to comments and the like (again, so sorry, I will get around to it…soon-ish)
4. I’ve also sort of stalled in completing my compilation of my poetry, which is ridiculous because it’s going to be a thin volume, but aside from busy-ness there are still little details that I need to clarify like ISBNs and whatnot. And I suppose nerves in general but okay, as soon as I clear out a few other things I need to take care of, I will sit down and finish editing. /hustle
5. Finally met up with my best friends earlier this week. We’ve all been a bit busy that our monthly meet-ups have stalled but it was nice to go out for a change and just chat (especially after the weekend I had -_-; )
6. I recently watched Logan. My review of the movie won’t be going live until next month but omg, the feels ;_;



7. Books I’m currently reading: I’m very slowly but surely starting Patrick Rothfuss’ The Wise Man’s Fear (at long last, lol). I just finished reading Ruby Dahl’s Memories Unbound and re-reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Chronicle of a Death Foretold so I’m sort of pondering in front of my bookshelf as to what to read next, lol.
8. Got my hands on Tolkien’s Beren and Luthien. There must be how many variations of this lay amongst the extra Tolkien books put out there since his death but whatever, it’s one of my favourites, haha.
9. My unboxing will be posted later this month but oooh, look, pretty stuff from the May edition of the Paper Panduh Subscription Box 😀
10. I have all this stationery but not a lot of people to write snail mail to…*was catching up with a few letters sitting on her desk*
