The life and misadventures of a family in contemporary Japan.

Having almost watched everything on the Hayao Miyazaki list, my family’s going through the rest of the Studio Ghibli discography. We’d been eyeing My Neighbours the Yamadas for some time now and my brother and I gave it as a gift to my mum for Christmas 🙂

It’s been a while since I’ve watched a Studio Ghibli film. Actually, I’m almost caught up, which is pretty cool. So yup, The Secret World of Arrietty has been on the to-watch pile for some time now (kept putting it off for other movies).

Warrior/pacifist Princess Nausicaä desperately struggles to prevent two warring nations from destroying themselves and their dying planet.

Okay, I told myself that I would not check this movie out until I finished my exams, but I couldn’t help myself xD Plus, this movie made io9’s list of anime that would change your list (I’ve only watched 3 from the list, and Neon Genesis Evangelion honestly still scars me to this day O_o ). It was like the universe was telling me to watch it sooner rather than later 😛 Contains some spoilers ahead!

On a journey to find the cure for a Tatarigami’s curse, Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war between the forest gods and Tatara, a mining colony. In this quest he also meets San, the Mononoke Hime.

So, fun fact: Princess Mononoke was my first Hayao Miyazaki movie. I watched it around 1999/2000, I think, during my (first) heyday into anime and manga. Everyone raved about it and I wasn’t sure what to expect of it, but I enjoyed it (oh, and I watched it in English the first time around). I watched it again a number of years ago when we got the DVD, that time in Japanese. I decided to re-watch it again in part because I was already in a Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki marathon of sorts, but also because I honestly didn’t remember much about the movie, lol 😛

A young boy and a girl with a magic crystal must race against pirates and foreign agents in a search for a legendary floating castle.

Continuing along in my gradual viewing of all of the Studio Ghibli movies I could lay my hands on, lol, is Castle in the Sky. I wasn’t initially planning on watching this (I’m on study mode at the moment, and Castle in the Sky is one of the lengthier films, I think, in the studio’s filmography), but my brother’s been raving and recommending it for ages so I decided to watch it 🙂 Contains some spoilers ahead!
