Website: ‘Hitting the 1000 mark’ giveaway winner

Posted 2 August, 2013 by Lianne in Website / 0 Comments

Thank you again for the congratulations and well wishes on my blog hitting 1000 posts! It’s pretty surreal to know that you’ve been blogging that many posts in one blog/domain for that long (and I’ve been blogging in general for a very long time, lol).

So, we have a winner for the book giveaway contest I hosted! A big congratulations to Ula, I hope you enjoy the novel you selected =)

And a big thank you to everyone who entered the contest! Be sure to keep an eye out on this blog for future giveaways (hmm, this may or may not be a hint that there’s one coming up in the not-so-distant-future ^_~), bookish blog events and all around merriment.

Have a wonderful weekend! (and to the Canadians, a lovely long weekend) 🙂

Website: Hitting the 1000 Mark

So a rather interesting thing has come to my attention regarding my website recently…

That’s right! This post, dear friends, is my 1000th post on caffeinatedlife.net. Crazy, huh? It’s nowhere near my blogoversary per se (which I’ve coincided with my domain birthday in February — not that I’ve ever really celebrated it, lol *oops*) but it’s quite a happy milestone nonetheless.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

I’m a little lazy to draw up statistics but you may have figured that most of the posts that have contributed to the 1000 mark are book-related. Actually, here’s a statistic: 362 of those posts are definitely book-related but it doesn’t include all of the book memes I’ve posted (maybe add another 200, 225 to that number?). But yes, 1000 posts of happy book/movie/television/writing-related thoughts, discussions, rants and highlights over the span of 6 years (give or take).

Anyways, I just wanted to say a big, massive THANK YOU to each and every one of you who have dropped by and commented, either frequently or infrequently, friend and acquaintance. Your thoughts and conversations have been such a joy to read and has made my years of blogging just a whole lot more fun =) So cheers to all of you! *raises a pint*

So in conjunction with this little milestone celebration, I’m hosting a little book (obviously) giveaway to say thank you! The winner drawn will have a choice of ONE of the following titles, books I’ve reviewed over the years and that I have really enjoyed (either 4 or 5 starred reviews). I tried to make this list as eclectic as possible so that there’s something for everyone (though I left out the classics for this one) *nods*

(List of books to choose from + contest details after the cut)

A Spear of Summer Grass

My review of the novel

Paris, 1923

The daughter of a scandalous mother, Delilah Drummond is already notorious, even among Paris society. But her latest scandal is big enough to make even her oft-married mother blanch. Delilah is exiled to Kenya and her favorite stepfather’s savanna manor house until gossip subsides.

Fairlight is the crumbling, sun-bleached skeleton of a faded African dream, a world where dissolute expats are bolstered by gin and jazz records, cigarettes and safaris. As mistress of this wasted estate, Delilah falls into the decadent pleasures of society.

Against the frivolity of her peers, Ryder White stands in sharp contrast. As foreign to Delilah as Africa, Ryder becomes her guide to the complex beauty of this unknown world. Giraffes, buffalo, lions and elephants roam the shores of Lake Wanyama amid swirls of red dust. Here, life is lush and teeming—yet fleeting and often cheap.

Amidst the wonders—and dangers—of Africa, Delilah awakes to a land out of all proportion: extremes of heat, darkness, beauty and joy that cut to her very heart. Only when this sacred place is profaned by bloodshed does Delilah discover what is truly worth fighting for—and what she can no longer live without.

Ahh, sorry for the delay in posting the results up! It’s been a hectic week so far for me…Anyways, merci beaucoup to everyone who entered A Spear of Summer Grass giveaway contest courtesy of the author and France Book Tours!

The winner of this contest is…Cate @ Boxes of Paper! Congratulations, I hope you enjoy the novel!

Again, thank you to everyone who entered! Have a wonderful week 🙂

The Summer of France
By: Paulita Kincer
Format/Source: Paperback courtesy of the author as part of the The Summer of France Book Tour
My review of the novel

When Fia Jennings loses her job at the local newspaper, she dreams of bonding with her teenage twins. As she realizes she may be too late to pull her family closer, her husband Grayson pressures her to find another job to pay the increasing bills. Relief comes with a phone call from Fia’s great Uncle Martin who runs a bed and breakfast in Provence. Uncle Martin wants Fia to venture to France to run the B&B so he and his wife Lucie can travel. He doesn’t tell Fia about the secret he hid in the house after fighting in World War II, and he doesn’t mention the people who are tapping his phone and following him, hoping to find the secret.

After much cajoling, Fia whisks her family to France and is stunned when Uncle Martin and Aunt Lucie leave the same day for a Greek cruise. She’s thrown into the minutiae of a running the B&B without the benefit of speaking the language. Her dreams of family bonding time fade as her teenagers make French friends. Fia’s husband Grayson begins touring the countryside with a sophisticated French woman, and Fia resists the distractions of Christophe, a fetching French man. Why the whirlwind of French welcome, Fia wonders after she comes home from a day at the beach in Nice to find someone has ransacked the B&B.

Fia analyzes Uncle Martin’s obscure phone calls, trying to figure out this WW II hero’s secret. Can she uncover the secret and relieve Uncle Martin’s guilt while building the family she’s always dreamed of?

(No violence. No graphic sex, some sexual situations.)
