Another Viscount in Love (The Originals #3.5)
By: Vivienne Lorret
Format/Source: eBook; my purchase

As the toast of the ton, Samuel Wortham, Viscount Ellery, should have no trouble finding a wife. Yet each lady he pursues ends up married to another. As a last hope, Sam plans a house party, intending to choose a bride from one of his guests. But when he encounters a raven-haired beauty by his estate’s pond, he’s captivated by her charm and desperate to see her again.

A quiet trip to the country is just what Gemma Desmond needs to take her mind off marriage. After all, as the daughter of a notorious criminal, her prospects seem quite grim. The last thing she expects is a chance meeting with a handsome lord and an invitation to his lavish house party. Ellery is everything she hoped for in a husband. But can she ever escape the stigma of her father’s misdeeds?

When a pair of conniving debutantes frame her for theft, Gemma has her answer. Unwilling to let her scandalous reputation taint the kind, honorable man she adores, she flees. Yet Ellery isn’t about to give her up. He might be just another viscount in love, but he refuses to let this potential bride slip through his fingers

I was so excited when I learned that Vivienne Lorret was coming out with another Originals story. I really enjoyed the last one–enjoyed them all, in fact–and as there aren’t really any historical romances in my radar at the moment–or really on my TBR pile (until I bought this and a novel by Mary Balogh)–this novella came out at the perfect time 🙂

Review: When a Marquess Loves a Woman

When a Marquess Loves a Woman (Season’s Originals #3)
By: Vivienne Lorret
Format/Source: eBook; my purchase

As a young, penniless gentleman, Maxwell Harwick knew he had little to offer Juliet White—the most beautiful debutante of the season—except his love, and one thoroughly scandalous kiss. But when they were discovered in a compromising position, a nearly ruined Juliet fled into the arms of a rich, older lord… taking Max’s heart with her.

Now a widow, Lady Juliet Granworth intends to use the fortune she inherited from her odious husband to build a new life in London. Five years have passed, but she’s never forgotten Max… or his soul-searing kiss. Yet it’s clear the newly-minted Marquess of Thayne has not forgiven her—after all, the infuriating man can barely stand the sight of her. But Juliet has endured far too much to give up without a fight and if it’s a battle of wills he wants, it’s a battle he’ll get.

He hates her for breaking his heart. She detests him for destroying her future. But beneath all the loathing simmers an intoxicating passion that neither can ignore… and the harder they resist, the harder they will inevitably fall.

And here we are, at the last of the Season’s Originals series. I’ve been enjoying this series and the build-up with the characters but at long last we’ve come to Max and Juliet’s story, which I had a feeling would be explored ever since they were introduced in the first book (as their chemistry even then when they were sniping at each other was through the roof) 😛

This Earl is on Fire (Season’s Originals #2)
By: Vivienne Lorret
Format/Source: eBook; my purchase

The sheltered daughter of a country baron, Miss Adeline Pimm comes to London looking for adventure… and finds it in the form of a bloody, unconscious man slumped in the doorway of her family’s rented townhouse. Though his identity is a mystery, Adeline is inexplicably drawn to the handsome, injured man and vows to nurse him back to health.

Liam Cavanaugh, the scandalous Earl of Wolford, is startled when he awakens in an unfamiliar bed, wrapped in bandages that hinder his eyesight, with no memory of why he was beaten half to death. Although he can’t see the witty young woman who tends to his wounds, her alluring voice—and a single stolen kiss from her soft lips—helps soothe his pain. But when he is fully healed, Liam is not ready to let go of the one woman who stirs his deepest longings.

Liam will do whatever it takes to see Adeline again, even if it means giving up his rakish ways. But his disreputable past is not so easily forgotten and his secrets are far more dangerous than he—or Adeline—ever imagined.

Whoo-hoo, second book in the Season’s Originals trilogy! I’ve enjoyed Vivienne Lorret’s books to date (see author tag) and more or less enjoyed the first book in this series (review) so I was curious to see how this second book fared. The Earl of Wolford, if I recall, did make an appearance in the first book but my memory’s a little hazy there–too many characters from a myriad of series to keep track of!–but nonetheless the premise sounded interesting.

The Debutante is Mine (Season’s Originals #1)
By: Vivienne Lorret
Format/Source: eBook; my purchase

From the Season Standard: “A true Season’s Original embodies the class, grace, and style of the ton. Such an honor ensures the recipient her pick of eligible suitors…”

Lilah Appleton’s prospects are looking dim. With one last chance to find a titled husband before she’s forced to wed her wretched cousin, she must make this Season count. Plain, forgettable Lilah must become the Season’s Original. Desperate, she seeks help from the devilishly charming, untitled, and thoroughly unsuitable Jack Marlowe. All she must do now is resist the tempting rogue…

Bastard son and self-made man, Jack Marlowe loathes the aristocracy. When he meets Lilah, he expects her to be like all the other greedy husband-hunters. But she’s far more dangerous. Her alluring smiles and sharp tongue intrigue him. Before he knows it, he agrees to help her find a husband, revealing tricks to ensnare any man. The only problem is, his plan works too well—on him.

When Lilah becomes the belle of the ball, Jack realizes he may lose her forever—unless he can take a chance on love and claim his debutante…

If you’ve been following my historical romances reviews, you may have noticed I’ve become a bit of a fan of Vivienne Lorret’s books (see author tag). They’re fun, with characters I grow to care for. Admittedly I wasn’t in any rush to pick up this book but after seeing some positive reviews on GoodReads and Riffle Books, I caved and picked it up 😛

Review: Daring Miss Danvers

Daring Miss Danvers (Wallflower Weddings #1)
By: Vivienne Lorret
Format/Source: eBook; my purchase

It’s all fun and games . . . until someone falls in love.

Oliver Goswick, Viscount Rathburn, needs money—and soon. With time ticking away and his inheritance held hostage until he’s properly wed, Rathburn’s slim options point to a single solution: a faux engagement. In need of the perfect bride, he knows of only one candidate: his best friend’s wallflower sister. The plan seems flawless, except for one problem . . . He can’t help falling in love with her.

Poised, polished Emma Danvers knows nothing good can come of Rathburn’s scheme. Spending the next two months engaged in a mock courtship is not what she’d imagined for her final season. Yet, charmed by his roguish ways and the inexplicable hammering he causes in her heart, she accepts his challenge.

For Emma, keeping the secret seemed easy when it was just a game . . . But as Rathburn begins to see past her reserved exterior to the passionate woman within, the risk of losing her heart becomes all too real.

I believe I mentioned this in another review but I decided to pick up the first book in Vivenne Lorret’s Wallflower Weddings series because it features Rafe Danvers (of The Devilish Mr. Danvers (review))’s sister, Emma. The Danvers seem like quite a lovely family despite of their eccentricities (for the time) so yeah, I was looking forward to reading Emma’s story.
