Don’t You Forget About Me
By: Mhairi McFarlane
Format/Source: Paperback; my purchase

If there’s one thing worse than being fired from the grottiest restaurant in town, it’s coming home early to find your boyfriend in bed with someone else.

Reeling from the indignity of a double dumping on the same day, Georgina snatches at the next job that she’s offered – barmaid in a newly opened pub, which just so happens to run by the boy she fell in love with at school: Lucas McCarthy. And whereas Georgina (voted Most Likely to Succeed in her school yearbook) has done nothing but dead-end jobs in the last twelve years, Lucas has not only grown into a broodingly handsome man, but also has turned into an actual grown-up with a business and a dog along the way.

Meeting Lucas again not only throws Georgina’s rackety present into sharp relief, but also brings a dark secret from her past bubbling to the surface. Only she knows the truth about what happened on the last day of school, and why she’s allowed it to chase her all these years…

Wheee, a new Mhairi McFarlane book! As you may know I’m a big fan of her books (see author tag) so I was delighted to hear she was coming out with a new book this year. I actually picked up my copy of the book while I was on layover at Munich International Airport which is something to remember too 🙂

Here’s Looking at You

Anna Alessi – history expert, possessor of a lot of hair and an occasionally filthy mouth – seeks nice man for intelligent conversation and Mills & Boon moments.

Despite the oddballs that keep turning up on her dates, Anna couldn’t be happier. As a 30-something with a job she loves, life has turned out better than she dared dream. However, things weren’t always this way, and her years spent as the ‘Italian Galleon’ of an East London comprehensive are ones she’d rather forget.

So when James Fraser – the architect of Anna’s final humiliation at school – walks back into her life, her world is turned upside down. But James seems a changed man. Polite. Mature. Funny, even. People can change, right? So why does Anna feel like she’s a fool to trust him?

Alas, here I am at the last Mhairi McFarlane book left on the list that I haven’t read. Actually, that’s not entirely true–she did release a novella a few weeks ago called After Hello following after the events of You Had Me At Hello (review)–but still, this was the only novel left on the list that I had yet to get around to.

Who’s That Girl?
By: Mhairi McFarlane
Format/Source: eBook; my purchase

When Edie is caught in a compromising position at her colleagues’ wedding, all the blame falls on her – turns out that personal popularity in the office is not that different from your schooldays. Shamed online and ostracised by everyone she knows, Edie’s forced to take an extended sabbatical – ghostwriting an autobiography for hot new acting talent, Elliot Owen. Easy, right?

Wrong. Banished back to her home town of Nottingham, Edie is not only dealing with a man who probably hasn’t heard the word ‘no’ in a decade, but also suffering an excruciating regression to her teenage years as she moves back in with her widowed father and judgy, layabout sister.

When the world is asking who you are, it’s hard not to question yourself. Who’s that girl? Edie is ready to find out.

I read two of Mhairi McFarlane’s books last year (see author tag) and absolutely loved them. At the time I still had two of her other books to read but then I picked up this book. It took me a while after that to get around to reading it, probably because I wanted to savour it a bit and really be in the mood to enjoy it. Well, here we are 🙂

Delia Moss isn’t quite sure where she went wrong.

When she realised life would never be the same again – she thought it was her fault.

And when he wanted her back life nothing had changed – Delia started to wonder if perhaps she was not to blame…

From Newcastle to London and back again, with dodgy jobs, eccentric bosses and annoyingly handsome journalists thrown in, Delia must find out where her old self went – and if she can ever get her back.

I couldn’t resist, after reading You Had Me At Hello (review), I just had to read this book 😀 I had been seeing the book around in the last few months prior to picking it up that I just had to check out what it was all about.

What happens when the one that got away comes back?

Rachel and Ben. Ben and Rachel. It was them against the world. Until it all fell apart.

It’s been a decade since they last spoke, but when Rachel bumps into Ben one rainy day, the years melt away.

From the moment they met they’d been a gang of two; partners in crime and the best of friends. But life has moved on. Ben is married. Rachel is definitely not. In fact, the men in her life make her want to take holy orders…

Yet in that split second, Rachel feels the old friendship return. And along with it, the broken heart she’s never been able to mend.

This was a whim purchase I made over the summer, haha. I’ve seen Mhairi McFarlane’s It’s Not Me, It’s You floating around during my many wanderings on GoodReads and book purchasing websites that I decided to pick it up. I also picked up this book because the premise sounded interesting (sucker for those second chances kind of stories 😉 ).
