Website: Updates (But Really Football, Writing and Floating Ideas)

Posted 22 June, 2012 by Lianne in Website / 0 Comments

(Not my gif; one of the best moments of the Euro 2012 tournament so far lol. Look how Jogi Loew just casually walks over and gets the ball out of the ball boy’s hands xP)

01. Right, so I’ve been updating this blog fairly regularly lately, mostly with the books that I’ve been reading but also with the 100 Things meme that I’m slowly trying to get through for my LJ, lol. You could just refer to my Books category to see all of the books I’ve read recently. A number of movies were reviewed however since my last update: Good Cop, Bon Cop, Iron Man, Underworld: Awakening, The Decoy Bride, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

02. I am currently participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. I meant to post an entry about it updating on what’s been happening about that but yeah, I’m having trouble enough staying on top of the word count (was feeling uninspired last weekend and that set me back by a few days) and keeping the story straight (I guess that’s what happens when you’re not working with a proper outline–I decided to free flow a bit for this novel, which I guess isn’t so much working in my favour). Suffice to say I should be done by June 30 but it’s definitely going to need a heck of an edit.

03. Website-wise, I’m hoping to make a few minor changes here within the next week or so. You’ll hardly notice the changes, I just need to group two sections together under one heading (the “Content” section) and set up a proper review policy section. I’ve never posted one up because all of the reviews that I’ve posted here were for fun and from books that I’ve read on my spare time but I realised that I need to make a disclaimer somewhere clarifying this matter. I added a Review Policy for anyone considering me to review his or her novel. It can be found on the top menu.

04. I’ve sort of neglected to update my other website, caffeinatedlife.net, for some time now. I had all these plans of setting up a way so that my photos can be ordered as prints and stuff like that (through 500px or RedBubble, haven’t tried either yet) but I never got around to it. I’m planning on revamping that site a little bit anyways and make it more of an online portfolio/CV and possibly use it maybe as a spring board for consultation or job prospects *big dreams* We’ll see. But after Camp NaNoWriMo I definitely plan on focusing on it and setting up a proper front page for that domain.

05. Speaking of professional matters, I had a phone interview the other day for a writing internship which I got–yay! I’ll be writing biweekly articles for the shiny new publication Discourse Magazine as the magazine’s European Politics columnist. It’s exciting because it’s more or less up my alley in terms of what I’ve studied at university so I’m looking forward to it and to working with the staff! =)

06. And on an unrelated note, this entire month has been everything Euros 2012 and nothing hurts =P Rooting for my boys the Germans to claim the silverware this year (they should’ve gotten it in 2010 IMO for the World Cup but I’m not bitter, I have good memories from their matches then and they’re really building up in this tournament) but I still hold a spot in my heart for the English (who are looking fresher than they were in 2010; I look forward to how the team will further evolve for the 2014 World Cup). I apologise to everyone who’s following my Twitter and are seeing only football-related tweets. My attention span pretty much zeroes in on it and almost nothing else when these major tournaments come around xD

Anyways, that’s about it in terms of general updates around the site and with me. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Website: caffeinatedlife.net is Open!

Posted 21 April, 2012 by Lianne in Website / 4 Comments

At last, my other domain is open, updated and ready for business! =) As I mentioned in a previous update, I had acquired another webspace and was thinking of what to do with it. In the end, I converted it into a web portfolio (a.k.a my “professional” website ^_~) featuring my photography and sketches. I’m using WordPress over there because I’m not too happy with the other programs available for featuring photography. I’m going to test run this for a year to see if I will be updating it as regularly as this website. In the meantime, you can hop on over there to check out some of my work/follow it/etc.: caffeinatedlife.net

Website: Updates All Around

Posted 20 April, 2012 by Lianne in Website / 2 Comments

(Haven’t finished watching this series yet but I love it, boo that it wasn’t renewed; someone posted this on ontd so I don’t know who to credit)

01. I’ve been on and off sick and feeling out of the weather lately, hence why I’m taking longer to getting back to comments and blogs and the like (both here and on my LJ). I will get around to it soon enough, I promise! =)

02. Posted up a slew of book reviews since my last update (which was actually at the end of last month): False Colours, The Girl Who Chased the Moon, Practical Magic, The Madonna of Almonds, A Discovery of Witches, The Devotion of Suspect X and Howards End.

03. Haven’t been watching very many movies lately, but I did post up a review of Pranzo in Ferragosto, which was a delightful movie.

04. On the television front, Game of Thrones series 2 is on right now but I will be posting up a full review of the series once it finishes airing (so that won’t be until…first week of June?) In the meantime, I finally caught up with Downton Abbey! =D You can find my thoughts on series 1 here and series 2 here.

05. I’ve mentioned this in a post or two but I’ve been participating in Script Frenzy this past month. I’m actually nearing the 100 pages (\o/) so expect an update post from me…soonish (provided I get to that point; I’m like 8 pages away and here I am confused on how to get from my current scene to the final scene–of course this would happen to me *thud*)

06. Finally, there’s a meme slowly going around on livejournal called the 100 things: a blogging challenge. I will be participating in this at my LJ but I will be crossposting the posts over here as well as the theme that I chose for that challege is all things science fiction and fantasy. You can view my master post for that challenge over here.

And that’s about it from me, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! =)

Website: New Layout, Updates, etc.

(Forgot where this was posted at but the special on Game of Thrones was ace)

01. Biggest (and latest) update here on rulethewaves.net: new layout! Much as I liked the old layout, it was starting to look a little too cluttered for my tastes so I thought a change was in order. This new layout is a lot simpler, a lot cleaner and a little easier to re-organise around and stuff. Plus there’s no pesky issue with the comments section anymore (in the threads before, I couldn’t find the css that dealt with the background for my comments…very annoying). Not to mention I miss having a header at the top of my blog (the photo used is one of my own, taken in Verona, Italia in 2010). There are a few things I likely have to tweak here and there but I’ll deal with them as they crop up. As an aside, I’m learning how to use the Thematic theme for my other site (work on that other layout is slow at the moment, I should note–I will hopefully start working on it a lot more in the coming weeks) so until then I’ll be sticking to this layout.

02. Posted a lot of book reviews including a re-read commentary of GRRM’s A Clash of Kings. Speaking of all things GoT-related, I finally finished my commentary post about the Baratheon brothers, whose dynamic is super interesting.

03. I also posted a number of movie reviews recently: The Immortals, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

04. On a related note, I finally finished watching series 1 of Downton Abbey! Expect a review from me…soonish =P

05. The latest issue of Femnista is out! The theme of the issue is the Edwardian period; my contributing piece was on A Room with a View and you could read my brief comments about the novel in this post.

And that’s about it from me (for now)! What do you guys think of the layout? Any problems that I should be aware of? Hope you all have a wonderful weekend =)

Website: What’s Been Going On

Posted 24 February, 2012 by Lianne in Website / 0 Comments

lol, I haven’t posted here in almost five days now which got me a bit antsy so here’s this post! =P Anyways, here’s an update of everything that’s been going on here at rulethewaves.net since my last update ^_~

(I loved this episode; sadly, I don’t know who made this wonderful gif, I saw it on tumblr, I believe)

      01. I’ve posted a ton of book reviews since my last general update (11! Wow!), which has been fun. In the process I’ve read two more books to go with the I Love Italy Reading Challenge, which is cool. My to-read pile expanded majorly in the past few days–going to try and refrain from book-buying for this Lenten season =P (let’s see if I can do it)

      02. I finally got around to purchasing a new domain for the other website so I’m hoping to start working on that next week depending on when it’s implemented. If I was smart with my time instead of oggling over fandoms and pretty pictures on tumblr I should have already watermarked my photos that are going to uploaded there but alas, did not really think that through (though I had an excuse: earlier this week I wasn’t well). Not to mention I’ve been meaning to upload them to websites like 500px. Nonetheless, I’m excited to get started on that though =)

      03. Speaking of websites, I’ve formally started my role as webmaster for my parish. It’ll take a week or so to get everything set up but I’m also looking forward to putting that project together as there’s a lot that we can do with it. I’ll be sure to post the link up here once everything is set up so that you can see what I’ve been up to! ^_~

      04. The job hunt is sort of preoccupying me both in my things-to-get-done list and mentally (which is very frustrating and another topic altogether) so I’ve been pretty slow in getting started in the other creative projects (i.e. my works-in-progress, compiling photos from my last vacation, etc.). My friend on livejournal recently reminded me that it’s been ages and a day since I’ve made any wallpapers or icons or whatnot (according to my arts site it’s been almost two years–rikes!). We’ll see if I can squeeze in some graphics in the near future ^_~

And that’s about it on what’s been going on at my end! I’ve started Intermediate II in my Italian language classes so that’s also been keeping me pretty busy. Hopefully I’ll be proficient enough to start typing some entries in Italian? lol, maybe, maybe not ^_~ Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
