August Updates

Posted 31 August, 2015 by Lianne in Website / 10 Comments

August was a fairly busy month reading-wise (read ALL the books!), offline, and otherwise. Suffice to say my scheduled book reviews have now backed up into late October November (oh my) 😛 Anyway, here’s what has been going on at my blog for the month of August:

+++

  1. Books reviewed this month include: Arkady and Boris Strugatsky’s The Dear Mountaineer’s Inn (review), Julie Schumacher’s Dear Committee Members (review), and Sigal Samuel’s The Mystics of Mile End (review). You can check out all the books I’ve reviewed recently in the book review tag.
  2. ARC reviews posted this month were for Aliette de Bodard’s The House of Shattered Wings (review) and Lucy Foley’s The Book of Lost and Found (review). You can check out all of the ARCs that I recently read in this tag.
  3. On the movies end, I finally posted my review of In the Loop (review). You can check out other movie reviews I’m posted in this tag
  4. I also finally got around to watching Netflix’s Daredevil some time ago! You can check out my thoughts on series 1 in this post and other television reviews/discussion posts I’ve made in this category.
  5. Roofbeam Reader hosted Austen in August, so in conjunction with the event I chose to focus on Jane Austen for this month’s edition of So You Want to Read… 🙂 You can read the post of my recommended reading order of her books in this post. For all my previous recommendations under this feature, check out this tag.

And that’s about it from me this month! How was your August? Have a wonderful week 🙂

July Updates

Posted 31 July, 2015 by Lianne in Website / 8 Comments

July was a busy one on my end with offline stuff. Summer also finally made its appearance here as it has been super hot, not to mention my city is hosting a ton of major events >_< Anyway, my semi-hiatus sort of dwindled to a close towards the end of the month, though I'm still sort of playing catch-up with everything I've missed. Here's what has been going on at my blog for the month of July regardless:

+++

  1. Books reviewed this month include: George Eliot’s Middlemarch (review), Kathleen Tessaro’s The Perfume Collector (review), and Robert Shearman’s They Do The Same Things Different There (review). You can check out all the books I’ve reviewed recently in the book review tag.
  2. I only posted one ARC review this month, Alice Hoffman’s upcoming The Marriage of Opposites (review). You can check out all of the ARCs that I recently read in this tag.
  3. On the movies end, I finally posted my review of Hayao Miyazaki’s final feature film, The Wind Rises (review). You can check out other movie reviews I’m posted in this tag.
  4. In conjunction with Canada Day at the start of the month, I decided to feature Alice Munro for this month’s So You Want to Read… 🙂 You can read the post of my recommendations for her short story collections over here. For all my previous recommendations under this feature, check out this tag.
  5. On a list-related note, having finally read all of Shakespeare’s works I compiled a list of my favourite plays. What are your favourites by him?

And that’s about it from me this month! I hope everyone had a lovely July and have a lovely weekend (and a lovely long weekend if you’re Canadian)! 🙂

June Updates

Posted 29 June, 2015 by Lianne in Website / 4 Comments

Ahh, June, how strange and frustrating a month you have been…Un-summer like weather + endlessly studying for tests, I’m honestly glad this month has come to a close 😛

(Not my gif (love the movie though!) but that’s pretty much me at the close of this month)

Anyway, here’s what has been happening on my blog (despite of my long absences) this past month. Posting this a bit early because I have a TTT post scheduled for tomorrow 😉 —

+++

  1. Books reviewed this month include: William Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus (review), Alexis M. Smith’s Glaciers (review), and Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See (review). You can check out all the books I’ve reviewed recently in the book review tag.
  2. The only ARC I reviewed this month was Kate Walbert’s The Sunken Cathedral (review). I also read Aidan Moher’s debut short story collection, Tide of Shadows and Other Stories (review) earlier this month. You can check out all of the ARCs that I recently read in this tag.
  3. For So You Want to Read… this month, I focused on Brandon Sanderson‘s fantastical books. What more can I say? 😛 You can read my recommendations over here. For all my previous recommendations under this feature, check out this tag.
  4. The only movie review that went live this month was Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo (review). You can check out all of the movies I’ve reviewed and wrote about in its category.
  5. Layout change! I meant to go with summertime colours but then I ended up with shades of blue and green anyway 😛 I’ll try to find some time today to darken the links as I find them a little too bright/light to read but otherwise I hope it’s readable without any other problems! I also condensed a few pages at the above menu just to keep everything decluttered 🙂

And that’s about it from me for the month of June! How was your June?

May Updates

Posted 31 May, 2015 by Lianne in Website / 10 Comments

How is it that it’s the end of the month already? May was such a strange month for me, especially towards the end–I kept thinking Victoria Day weekend was at the last week of the month but it wasn’t O_O Anyways, here’s what has been going on here at the blog for the month of May:

+++

  1. Books reviewed this month include: Lucinda Riley’s The Lavender Garden (review), Deborah Harkness’ The Book of Life (review), and Marina Fiorato’s Beatrice and Benedick (review). You can check out all the books I’ve reviewed recently in the book review tag.
  2. ARCs reviewed this month include: Catherine Chanter’s The Well (review) and Donna Douglas’ The Nightingale Girls (review). You can check out all of the ARCs that I recently read in this tag.
  3. For So You Want to Read… this month, I focused on the late Sir Terry Pratchett‘s Discworld books (for the most part, anyway). You can read the post of my recommendations here. For all my previous recommendations under this feature, check out this tag.
  4. No movies or theatre-related posts this month, but I did pose this question at the start of the month about what to do with ARCs afterwards. Please pop in if you can, I would really appreciate the input! 🙂
  5. I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner but I’m slowly starting to add tags in to my book reviews for ratings to make it easier to navigate my blog. Unfortunately I have some 600+ (!!!) posts of book reviews so creating a proper archive would be incredibly cumbersome with time I don’t have so I’m hoping the tags would be of some use 😉

And that’s about it from me this month! Hope everyone had a lovely May and wishing all the best for the month of June 🙂

Ahh, April. Seem liked yesterday I was saying adios to March, welcoming Easter and Spring and here we are at the end of April and at the cusp of summer (seriously, it feels like it was never spring. I’m okay where we are, I don’t want it to get any hotter). Anyway, here’s what has been going on at my blog for the month of April:
