Posted 14 February, 2013 by Lianne in Lists / 4 Comments

In continuation of this week’s Valentine’s-themed posts (bookish and otherwise), here’s some of my favourite romantic sentences (or batches of sentences, lol, I realised all of these weren’t one-liners or anything) from some of the books I’ve read and have just stuck in my memory =D

Without further ado…Spoilers, maybe?

List: Sad Romances in Books & Movies

Posted 13 February, 2013 by Lianne in Lists / 0 Comments

Continuing along in this week’s themed blog posts about love and romance…well, today’s is a little sadder, looking at the ill-fated couples and the couples who ended up with a sad ending (got to salute those who didn’t get to their happily ever after to the end of their days). I was inspired to write up a post like this from Tanya of’s post =) Initially this post was only going to feature couples in literature but I decided to toss in the movies as well just to even it out a little (and I’ve inserted scenes where I can from adaptations) *nods*

Spoilers ahead if you haven’t read these books or watched their respective adaptations as my commentary with each may contain some details from the book (I try to keep it vague but you never know)Edit: So sorry if you were trying to comment a short while ago and couldn’t; for some reason the setting was switched =S Read More

(because I can’t think of a better title for this post, lol)

Okay, maybe you’re like me and you’re wary about this time of year. Or you absolutely love this time of the year. I usually just go about my business but this year I decided to feature a number of posts about it, lol, approach it differently (and it’s an excuse to flail over pretty things like books and movies and television shows and talk about them with you guys) =)

(Not my gif but it’s cute, seems apt for this week)

To start, here’s a few movies that perhaps would be perfect to watch either with friends or by yourself (snacks are optional) =)

Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain (2001)

I absolutely <3 this movie. Not only is the romantic story very cute but it’s such a feel-good movie too. And the soundtrack is gold

Books: 10 Books for Your Winter Reading List

Posted 13 December, 2012 by Lianne in Lists / 12 Comments

This post was inspired by this post from Casee Marie of Literary Inklings. I totally agree with her sentiments that the change in seasons–especially the winter time–definitely makes an impact/reflects in the books that we bookworms read. It might be a bit more dramatic, a bit more reflective, a bit more introspective of the season with all the snow and the cold.

For me personally it usually means that the Russians are coming in my selection =P

But anyways, the following 10 books that would make great winter reads =)

Winter: Five Windows on the Season by Adam Gopnik (review)– This was the theme of last year’s Massey Lecture series and it’s absolutely perfect for this time of the year. Winter is more than just a season and Adam Gopnik examines the different ways that we associate with the season, from sports to literature and art. (I also recommend the lecture series if you’re into nonfiction)

I was inspired by this list of closing lines of novels from LitReactor to come up with my own favourite closing sentences from novels. So, without further ado (took me a while to get around to finishing this draft but it’s done!) and in no particular order, here’s some of my favourites:

Spoilers ahead, maybe? (if you haven’t really read the following)
