Movie: The Fountain (2006)

Posted 1 July, 2011 by Lianne in Entertainment / 0 Comments

The Fountain is an odyssey about one man’s thousand-year struggle to save the woman he loves. His epic journey begins in 16th century Spain, where conquistador Tomas Creo (Hugh Jackman) commences his search for the Tree of Life, the legendary entity believed to grant eternal life to those who drink of its sap. As modern-day scientist Tommy Creo, he desperately struggles to find a cure for the cancer that is killing his beloved wife Isabel (Rachel Weisz). Traveling through deep space as a 26th century astronaut, Tom begins to grasp the mysteries of life that have consumed him for more than a century.

It’s funny, I did hear about this movie in passing when it first came out back in 2006 but I only got around to watching it at the end of last year after listening to the soundtrack first (more about that later in this review). Spoilers ahead!

Movie: Jane Eyre (2011)

After a bleak childhood, Jane Eyre goes out into the world to become a governess. As she lives happily in her new position at Thornfield Hall, she meets the dark, cold, and abrupt master of the house, Mr. Rochester. Jane and her employer grow close in friendship and she soon finds herself falling in love with him. Happiness seems to have found Jane at last, but could Mr. Rochester’s terrible secret be about to destroy it forever?

I admit, I was one of many people who were like “Why are they making another adaptation so soon?” when I first heard about this movie. I absolutely loved the 2006 version with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens so I wasn’t entirely sure about this movie, especially as there are a number of other Bronte books that haven’t been adapted yet. But then I saw the trailer and thought that there was potential for this movie. Spoilers ahead!

Posted 28 February, 2011 by Lianne in Entertainment / 0 Comments

Dom Cobb is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible-inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.

Okay, this movie came out last summer and I only watched last week so I’m very, very late to the party. Spoilers ahead!
