So here’s a little detail for you: today’s my birthday 😛 I’m not one for big celebrations or anything, and it doesn’t help that my birthday falls on a Monday this year (haha O_O). Anyway, to celebrate this small detail, I am hosting a wee little book giveaway here on my blog this month 🙂 The following are nine books that I’ve read this year and that I’ve enjoyed and you can win one of. Why nine selections? It’s not arbitrary, I assure you; it’s because I’m 29 today xP

- Russian Winter by Daphne Kalotay (review)
- Runaway by Alice Munro (review)
- Any book from Deborah Harkness’ All Souls trilogy (see author tag)
- Any book from Rachel Bach’s Paradox trilogy (see author tag)
- Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter (review)
- My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante (review)
- The Winter Sea (Sophia’s Secret) by Susanna Kearsley (review)
- Always the Bridesmaid by Lindsey Kelk (review)
- The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde (review forthcoming)

Happy birthday!!! I hope it’s fabulousl And to answer the question — if we were hanging out for your birthday, I suppose we’d start by doing something book-geeky like hanging out in an awesome used bookstore (my treat!), then tracking down the world’s best cupcakes. 🙂 I hope you have a great celebration!
Thanks so much Lisa! 😀 Books and cupcakes sound like a lovely way to celebrate indeed 🙂
Happy birthday! All the best people have October birthdays ;-D If we were hanging out we’d go on a bookshop crawl! 😀 Thanks for the giveaway. x

Thanks so much Aloi! It was a good day (and yup, there was cake! 🙂 ) That’s awesome that 28 was a good year for you; my 28 was okay but am wishing good things for 29 🙂

We would go out on a bookish shopping day. 🙂
Thanks so much Elin! 🙂

We would probably have a huge bookish themed birthday party and then hit the bookshops!
I’ve always wanted to throw a bookish-themed party of some sort, haha. Thanks for the birthday greeting! 🙂
He Lianne! I just now read this post, because I’m super behind with blog-reading. Anyway, happy belated birthday! Hope you had a great day!
If we were hanging out for your birthday and you happened to be in The Netherlands, I would show you a nice historical town and then have tea (or coffee for you) and cake in some cozy café.
Aww, no worries, thanks for the birthday greetings! Hope all is well with you (excellent birthday plans btw 😉 )! 🙂
HI lovely 🙂
Please I adore all kind of sweet stuff so I guess We go to a coffee shop to eat brownies and talk about books. Best plan ever
Best plan indeed! 😀 Thanks for stopping by!
Happy belated birthday!!! Hope you had a good one! If we were hanging out together for your birthday, we would hit all the bookstores we could and have dinner in a restaurant and go to the movies!
Thanks so much! I did indeed have a good one 🙂
Happy birthday Lianne!
Thanks Melinda! 🙂
I just saw this! I hope you had a very happy birthday! Mondays are rough, but if you get cake, that can help!
Thanks so much Krysta! 🙂 Cake and knowing it was my birthday definitely helped me through that Monday xD
Happy birthday. Sorry for the lateness, but better late than never. 😉
What should we do for your birthday, I vote go to a fun bar and drink and talk books. 😀
No worries, thanks so much! 😀 And your plans for my birthday sounds fantastic 😉
I’m terribly late to the party – but hope you’ve had a wonderful birthday month. And what a fantastic selection of books you’ve listed – I wholeheartedly recommend Beautiful Ruins and The Eyre Affair. Thanks for the giveaway – if lucky enough to win I’d choose My Brilliant Friend. And birthday celebration… discussing favourite books/characters over cocktails (or perhaps a bottle of prosecco ) 🙂
Thanks so much for the birthday greetings, Jo, no worries! I had a good birthday month, thank you. Your plans for a birthday celebration sounds perfect 😀
Hallo, Hallo Lianne!
I kept writing myself a note to drop back and leave you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY message, but the week took me away! I cannot believe your birthday month has already come and gone! Reminds me of mine (back in Summer) how time has a way of moving forward at such a speed that if we blink we could miss it entirely!? I feel so out of touch, so I’m not sure what we’d do if we were IRL to celebrate, except to say I know we both enjoy papery loveliness, so perhaps going out to some wicked awesome stationery shoppes – hidden little dives in the city (Toronto) and a lovely lunch out at an unexpected treasure that serves everything from lattes to vegetarian faire would be a nice outing? Even to duck into a bookshoppe that sells books from around the world would be clever fun.
I picked the Kearsley novel because I dearly want to read her next year as I never had the chance to pick up one of her novels as of yet. 🙁 Hope your month was full of merriment and birthday cheer!
What would your ‘best birthday day’ entail?
Hi Jorie! *waves* No worries, thanks so much for the birthday greeting! Where has October gone, indeed…Paper loveliness, bookshops, and lunch at a nice part of the city sounds wonderful 🙂 I hope you get a chance to read one of Kearsley’s novels at some point, they’re quite wonderful! I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland (the UK, really), but her books make me really want to go, like, now, hahaha 😀
Hmm, good question. I guess my best birthday days entail a lot of the way I celebrate my birthdays: with my family and my friends, a quiet day without any trouble or something to dampen the mood of the day (and some quality reading time, of course!). Though it’s always extra nice when you’re somewhere else on your birthday 😉
