Eclectictales.com’s Blogoversary!

Posted 4 February, 2015 by Lianne in Website / 52 Comments

My domain URL may be new but my webspace isn’t, and today it is celebrating 8 years on the internet! πŸ™‚ (yeah, I’m pretty old on the blogosphere, haha xP) It’s been another wonderful year on the blogosphere, chatting with bloggers about books and television shows and all kinds of stuff, both here and on Twitter πŸ™‚ I’ve “met” a number of new bloggers thanks to Armchair BEA last year and other blogging events such as read-alongs, as well as plenty more via Twitter and through other blogger friends. I’ve also learned a lot as a blogger, discovered new tools to connect and present my blog posts in a more organised manner. And of course it was a fantatic year in reading, as evident by the end of the year book survey I filled out back in December 2014 πŸ™‚

According to WordPress stats, here are my top 5 visited posts from the past year (barring pages and sign-up posts to last year’s reading challenges that I hosted):

I’ve noticed there’s been ups and downs in the book blogging community in the last year, and it affected us all at some level; heck, there are times when I do find myself wondering why I blog, why I bother posting my thoughts on books and whatnot. But then I re-read a few of my book reviews (the lengthier ones–the classics or on the books I really loved πŸ˜› ) and I remember that it’s about my love of storytelling, of books, of talking about books with others. Sure, some reviews don’t get as much attention as others (alas), books I push aren’t for everyone (it happens), but I’m ever grateful to have this medium to channel my thoughts and interact with others who also love to read and understand, appreciate, and approach books in a somewhat similar manner as I do xD

So I just wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you very much to all my readers, commenters, fellow bloggers & friends for being awesome, for commenting, for the discussion, recommendations, encouragements, and feedback. I’m still working on getting back to comments at a timely manner, but your comments make my day πŸ™‚

As a little thank you to you all, I am hosting a giveaway with an opportunity to win one of the following 8 (hehe) books I read in the past year and enjoyed. I tried to keep it as eclectic (hehehe) as possible so that there’s something for everyone πŸ˜‰ This giveaway is open internationally as long as the Book Depository ships to your country.

  2. Holy cow, I forgot you’d been around that long! It’s so impressive! (And also crazy for me to think about. 8 years ago I was still in high school O.o) You always have such a wide range of books on your blog, I love it! (And your new blog name is the perfect fit too!)

    • Haha, yeah, the years don’t feel so much or that long either! But oh man, if you were in high school 8 years ago, then I really feel the age, lmao! πŸ˜› I was…in the the third year of my undergraduate programme when I purchased this webspace xD

Thanks so much for the kind words, Elizabeth πŸ™‚ I’m so happy with this new blog name and how it reflects on all of the books I read xD

  3. Such a fun idea! I’m amazed you’ve been doing this for eight years. That’s a great commitment. πŸ™‚
I always enjoy reading your blog and I hope you have many more years of great blogging. πŸ™‚

  4. It has been fun getting to know you through the North and South Read Along! I’m glad we met. Congrats on blogging for so long! I’m glad you blog for you.

  5. Congratulations and happy blogoversary (a few days late)! Eight years is fantastic.

I have some of the same thoughts sometimes, but like you, I keep blogging because I love books and reading/talking/writing/thinking about them with other people who share that love. Thank you for being one of them!

    • Haha, no worries, thanks so much for the greeting! I guess those little moments are good because it allows you to step back and remind yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing πŸ™‚ It’s reaffirming. Thank you for being one of them too! πŸ˜€

    • Hehe, thanks so much! It’s funny, I recently installed an archives section for the blog and it’s amazing to see how far I’ve come from those early days (occasional posts, posting random lists when I used to be able to count the number of books on my TBR pile on my fingers (lol), etc.) xD

  6. Wasn’t it your last blogoversary, like, yesterday?? I remember I won The Shadow of the Wind (which was a good book and in fact has inspired us to book a vacation to Barcelona this May).

    HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY! Here’s to another 8 πŸ™‚

    • I know, eh? How fast time flies by…Hee, 1) Am so happy you enjoyed The Shadow of the Wind, 2) awesome that you guys are going to Barcelona for vacation this year! Have fun πŸ˜€ and 3) lol, the same thing happened to be years ago when I first read the book! Convinced my parents to make a detour in our vacation plans to visit Barcelona. Good times πŸ™‚

  7. Congrats! I’m so impressed that it’s your 8th anniversary. In the past, I had trouble keeping a blog going more than a couple months. Wow, eight years! That’s definitely something to celebrate.

    • Aww, thanks Melissa! The momentum to keep going after a few months can be pretty tough, especially when you’re still figuring out what works for you and the whole networking your blog aspect (which I didn’t start doing until…4 years ago maybe?), but it’s amazing how a hobby or the focus of your blog keeps you going πŸ™‚ That’s awesome that you kept going with your present blog!

  8. Ula

EIGHT YEARS! Wow that is really amazing, congratulations, and a happy blog birthday! πŸ™‚ May there be even more. πŸ™‚
I know what you mean about the drama… it’s gotten to me pretty seriously. I just had to unplug for a whole to clear my head and am feeling a bit better already after almost 2 weeks. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks so much Ula! I’m sorry to hear that the drama has affected you so πŸ™ But I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling better unplugged from it all πŸ™‚ Wishing you all the best and relaxation during your hiatus πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much! And thanks for the kind words about my giveaway; sometimes I do wonder if my giveaways would be of any interest to people, but it does reflect the books I’ve reviewed on my blog and that I do recommend so I guess all is well, lol πŸ™‚
