10 Bookish and Not-So-Bookish Thoughts

Bookish and Not-So-Bookish Thoughts is a weekly blogging event hosted by Bookishly Boisterous. It allows book bloggers (and non-book bloggers) to write about pretty much anything, bookish or otherwise (i.e. share exciting plans for the weekend, rants on things they’ve encountered during the week, etc.).

  1. Another snow day yesterday (I find it’s always on a Wednesday). Absolutely crazy, especially as the previous two days we finally got plus Celcius temperatures. And today (Thursday) is going to minus-goodness-knows-what #boo

  2. Book haul from last week xD So many pretty covers from that last batch…
  3. The Longlist for the Baileys Women’s Prize 2014 is out! Talk about crazy competition: Hannah Kent, Eleanor Catton, Margaret Atwood, Jhumpa Lahiri, Donna Tartt, etc? I honestly only have Catton’s The Luminaries on my to-read at the moment though I am also eyeing Tartt and Kent’s novels…No way am I going to have read any of them before the shortlist or the winner is announced though.
  4. Another prize list I came across last week: 2014 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize Longlist. I recognised a few titles (namely Javier Marias), added a ton more to my wishlist.
  5. So World’s Biggest Bookstore (which isn’t really, but it’s a great name; the building used to be a bowling alley) is closing for good. It makes me sad because I love going here whenever I’m at the Eaton Centre. Why are all of the bookstores I used to go to growing up closing? 🙁
  6. Came across this on Twitter a few days ago: 35 Things You Should Never Say to a Book Lover. Truth.
  7. Meanwhile, whoo-hoo! Finally got my hands on The Hollow Crown 😀 I’m sooooo excited to watch this, been eyeing it for maybe the last year or two. I’d read the plays first but I don’t think that’s going to happen right away, especially as I just finished reading two Shakespeare plays recently (it will be done though…eventually =P)
  8. Guh, have you seen the latest Orphan Black trailer? It is absolutely mad! *flails* (And that beginning sequence where Sarah is running may or may not have been shot a street away from where I live) Is it 19 April yet?
  9. Okay, I’m also getting a bit excited for series 4 of Game of Thrones (I say this because, like the book, only certain storylines interest me more than others):
  10. Best choice I made this week: following Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Twitter. His tweets crack me up! =P (In other news, the new Twitter layout is ehh =S)

And that’s about it from me this week 🙂 Happy weekend! Be sure to link up over at Bookishly Boisterous if you’re participating.

  1. I LOVE ORPHAN BLACK! And that trailer made me very excited… I feel like I should start counting days for the premiere of the second season 🙂

  2. It makes me so sad when bookstores close down 🙁 I really hope that things will turn around for bookstores soon, because I really love them and there’s just a special feeling you get when you can browse through a bookstore that you don’t get ordering a book online. I also love your new blog design!

  3. I really want to start watching Orphan Black. I’m with you on Game of Thrones – some storylines are far superior to others. Although I’m so hoping to see Joffrey’s main story arc this season (if it goes the way it’s supposed to).

    • You should! It’s insane and addictive and good 😛

Agreed, like the books I’m more invested with certain storylines over others (the King’s Landing arc this season should be insane :D)

    • Aww, maybe you’ll be able to catch it on the BBC America website? (dunno if they stream episodes after they’ve aired; I know Space does up here) But no kidding when they said that s2 was like s1 on crack (or something like it) xD
