Random: Blogging Plans for 2012

I was inspired by Boof’s blog entry about book-blogging plans for 2012 that I decided to make a post here of my plans for next year.

2012 is going to be the year of re-reading for me. Over the course of the past year (and reinforced back in late October when I was re-organising my bookshelves), I realised that it’s been a long time since I’ve done any substantial re-reading of the books on my bookshelf (I used to re-read a lot when I was in high school). I thought a major re-read would be especially interesting as I never got around to posting up reviews on a number of the books, particularly those that I read before I started keeping an online book blog (of sorts). So it’s partly an excuse to post more reviews in the coming year (I was pretty good at it this year, but it’d be nice to post more in the future). I admit, doing a major re-read is also a good way of saving money and curbing my frequent trips to the bookstore *blushes* Anyways, I hope to post a list at some points of some of the novels I hope to re-read in the near future; we’ll see.

As with every year, I aim to read through my to-read pile in efforts of minimising that list. It’s a bad habit I developed when I was in my undergrad years where my to-read pile would expand faster than my speed of reading. Okay, part of the reason this list is a little larger than usual is because I worked in the bookstore during the Christmas season (an interesting and lovely experience, if not also a little mad the closer you get to Christmas Day itself) and I found myself buying a number of books *blushes* It’s also quite an eclectic mix that should keep me from being bored by my selection on the shelf xD

For someone who’s read some pretty massive books like Tolstoy’s War and Peace, there are some classics out there that are pretty daunting that I end up putting them off. This year I finally got around to reading Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina (my goodness, why did I not read this book sooner? It was an absolutely fantastic novel! You can read my review/commentary of the novel over here) and Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov (brilliant book, but yeah, you have to be in the right mindset to read it).

Next year I do have a few books that I hope to get around to, such as Dostoevsky’s The Idiot, Eliot’s Middlemarch and Hardy’s The Mayor of Castlebridge. In the case of the latter, maybe I’ll treat myself to the adaptations after reading the novels to encourage me through them. =) So that’s my plan with these classics; I don’t know when I’ll be reading them but that’s the plan =D

I actually have blog categories for movies and televisions but I rarely use them, posting up the occasional review of a movie I recently watched or, in the case of Misfits, a television show I greatly enjoyed. The problem I think is that I don’t watch either often enough these days; I don’t watch a lot of television these days and when it comes to reviewing movies, I need to watch a movie that gives me enough thought to warrant a review. But anyways, I hope to do that somehow in the coming year.

This is a 50/50 because it depends on how busy I am in the coming year and how our bandwidth works out (this has been a bit of an issue in our house for the latter half of the year; we seem to be maxxing out quite a bit these days). Anyways, I hope to expand my readership a bit given the amount of reviews/commentaries of books I’ve been posting these days and would love to connect and discuss with other book bloggers (and regular bloggers)! I’m not entirely sure how to go about doing this (I seem to have been a bit of a hermit on the web as well as in real life this past year) so we’ll see =)

And that’s pretty much the major plans (or resolutions, if you will) I have for next year booking and blogging-wise here on my website. I might also mix my blog up a bit in terms of content (I did that a bit this year with my post on social networks websites for travelers and tools for putting together travel itineraries), especially as I’m slowly moving away from livejournal (seems most of my friends have migrated away, plus the service has not been up to par these days) but again, we’ll see.

  1. Number 2 seems to be common to all of us, bookbloggers. My reading pile gets larger each week yet I don’t manage to get through it. Anyway, who would like to a have nothing to read? A pile must be always there 🙂
